Look what you find when you least expect it…

Again doing a bit of cleaning and look what I’ve found some bone china earings dating back to the 40’s

I knew they were somewhere but had’nt thought about them for years and I’ve suddenly come across them. They are clip on’s not many people had peirced  ears in those days They are so pretty I would’nt wear them as they are very delicate, I’m sure theres a home for them somewhere

All things Vintage… vintage china, my magpie attraction and collection for soooooo many items!!

My battle with china hoardings!!!

Originally china  does actually come from the beautiful country of China, where it was handcrafted in different parts of the country well this dates back many centuries, so if anybody has a find  dating back to these times they would be incredibly lucky and probably spotted by an experts anyway.

Having said that there’s still  plenty of pretty fine china to be had. Takes a bit of searching in bric a brac shops, in the UK the car boot is a great place to strike lucky then of course also we have charity shops where  you will invariably pick something up. I’m always looking for something that is pretty to add to the pieces I’ve already got. Never ending really…

My collections are usually from Victorian up to the ’70’s. mainly consist of complete or part tea sets / dinner sets. I have to admit I never go looking for that piece to complete a set if I do find it and I can remember what I’ve got at home and its in excellent condition I’d probably make a conscious effort to buy…..never happened yet. Needless to say my pieces are quite random but I like it like that.

I’ve also been lucky to inherit pieces along the way over the years. Lets face it there was no hope for me really it has to go on I will admit I’m an avid collector of a number of vintage styles, for instance jewellery the deco era especially.

I digress..again.

A recently bought plate is an example of a pretty design leaning towards probably the victorian / edwardian  era as the holes on the edge of the plate where ribbon would be threaded through is indicative of that period of time. This not  particularly a plate of value there is no marker on the reverse but it’s probably a replica of that time maybe produced in the ’30’s-’50’s or maybe produced as fair ground prizes. My tastes are varied.

I have to say all this varied collection prompted me to make use of my china some time ago and I did start hiring it out for small vintage tea parties which are very popular and in demand. It was a good move but then this wedding had to be organised and I let things slide a bit….should never do that but I’m still getting the odd enquiry so at this stage with no move taking place and no wedding happening in the near future, I’ve decided to move it forward again

Wishing myself a shedfull of luck. LOL

Picturesque Lake Winderemere

Promise of quaintnessVisited the north-west of the UK last weekend, the coastal town of Southport. I’d never been there before  and was pleasantly surprised, situated and   opposite the famous city of  Liverpool, which is as iconic as iconic can be as the “Beatles” did come from Liverpool. The river Mersey separates both towns. I can tell you the Mersey does not look inviting at all! Very cold and fierce even though the sun was shinning. Not that you’d want to take a dip! Only had a short stay in Southport  did a bit of retail  we then we made  towards the Lake District,  to  Windermere  passing through Kendal a sleepy little village, not a lot going on mainly residential but surrounded by beautiful countryside. When we got to Lake Windermere what a delight. The day was a bit dull weatherwise  but very warm. It was only a quick getaway overnight stay, so not a huge amount of time to do all I would have liked to but to say Lake Windermere  is stunning is an understatement and a sail over the lake is a must.   The scenery is beautiful. Being springtime all the trees were coming to life but I imagine in the autumn  the changing colour of the different foliage all around but especially on the lakes edge would be outstanding. It’s a very attractive  little town has a lot going on and absolutely packed with tourists.  Nearly there.

Its nice to say”thank you” it does’nt hurt and costs zilch

I do like to think that I’m quite good at the “thank you” thing I really do appreciate anything that anybody does for me, says something nice or just remembers my ongoing birthdays ( I think far more than I care to admit to  ha-ha) and to remember to say a sincere thank you is important and it is just nice. To show appreciation with a “thank you” can brighten your day or more importantly you can brighten somebody’s day.

And the best thing about it is it costs nothing to say thank you  nothing, nothing!!

Now for the personal situation that requires more than just those important few words why not send a card?

Thank You

Thank You

All will come to those who wait….China for Hire…Plus Food.

Quiet Blog…. Not for Long! Anybody There??

The written word for my blog has been a little bare for few days but I have had a few decent excuses, one being surprised to a Spa week end -sheer bliss. Not allowed to take my phone with me even though  I was in safe hands but a bit lost without the thing. To be truthful I’m not an avid phone user but when I was prevented (by my friends) from having my phone with me I felt a little lost. Oh dear, makes me wonder what I’ve turned in to, for example BIG rule never have the phone at the dinner table and yes I still have that rule, but actually not having a phone for ANY access was a bit strange

I got over it. Back to normal ring – ring anybody  there?

After having a healthy weekend I returned feeling a little sheepish, as I’ve previously posted I did start Yoga and then did’nt do much about it.  I fully intended but I did’nt, well now I am going to do a big something about it;

I WILL continue with my class

I WILL make the time

I WILL enjoy.

I’ve also been doing a little research, well a bit more than a little research it’s taken a number of months and I am pleased with the out come. About year ago I was whiling away a few spare hours really just peeping around the net seeing what was on trend etc. and  I found some really interesting sites selling repro vintage accessories, jewellery and shabby chic home decor items. After a lot of pondering eventually I decided to buy a small quantity (very small)  bits jewellery and scarves, As I already sell my Handmade cards I realised I maybe had,  all be it a small  captive audience to sell to so I bit  the bullet and went for it.  Talk about the last of the big spenders I had arrived all, of £50 worth of stock being coveted by my conscience, my fear of being left with this stock…yes all of  50 quid… was ridiculous.

I’d bought and  I’d  sold, so some days later I repeated my exercise ordered some more stock, again only small items and still small quantities and yes I had the same level of success. ….Consequently I have extended my range. Well to be truthful I could’nt  display a smaller range LOL. so my extended range is still “small” but growing I hope. All I’m doing is rinse and repeat on a very non commercial scale, almost like testing the waters, so I feel quite justified in being a little excited

I have taken a long time to decide what I’d like to sell,  I wanted to create an interest so that people would remember even if they did’nt buy.

Now I’m thinking of other products that are of interest so I’ll test a little further and let you know.

The Calm Before the Buzz

Strolling along the High St  at late afternoon the myriad of visitors seemed to have slowly made their way home, where ever home is. The throng of people has well and truly thinned out but for the few still around and about it takes on a different quality of presence. Now you can bask in the relative quiet of ancient history, uninterrupted by people jostling and shoving and pushing to get the “great picture or video” to show back home. Now you can take in and absorb the essence of this wonderful ancient architecture.
